A Question from Heather Cox Richardson

Seems to be a good question.   Maybe you would like to respond to her, or at least encourage some discussion:

I'm wondering about what seems daily to be the doubling down of state Republican parties against democracy— voting, protesting, speech, and so on— even as many national businesses are pushing back. What do you think is the end game here? Is the idea to control enough states that these extremist state Republicans can take over Congress and thereby the federal government, sort of the Confederacy from within? Or is this just desperation?

I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this. (Including whether I'm wrong to see such a split.)
