For those of us who grew up with or experienced the history of Watergate, we have the memory of Richard Nixon ingrained as to what he did to damage the dignity and office of the president. Now, as we suffer the daily indignities of a a president who seems hell-bent on destroying more than just the office of president, but our institutions and whatever respect in the world we might have had. The comparison of Nixon and Trump is more than just a coffee table parlor game. It is serious stuff, and as things get worse, ......well we are now at the point where we figure out who is worse. This, from today's opinion section of the Los Angeles Times:
Patriotism is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.
