Boom! Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker just "punched" Trump in the face—repeatedly and unmercifully! In fact, what Pritzker did to Trump conjured up for me a famous scene from the movie "The Hangover" when actor Rob Riggle playing a police officer directed a kid to fire a taser at Zach Galifianakis. The kid then shot the taser into Galifianakis's face causing Riggle to comically shriek, "In the face…in the face!" (See clip below) That is what Pritzker did to Trump! The Illinois Governor not only stood strong against Trump's threats to send red state National Guard units to occupy Chicago, but he also punched back. And that is what we need to see more of. Pritzker gets what I've been repeating over and over: We are at war! Trump doesn't care about crime, he cares about control. Do you believe Trump cares if Democrats are the victims of crimes?! Of course not. In fact, Trump told us just last month that Democrats "hate our country" and he "hates" Democrats. He views us as the enemy—that is how his actions must be viewed. Pritzker gets this as we heard at his press conference Monday afternoon flanked by community leaders, elected officials and more. During his speech—that I encourage you to read--he slammed Trump's lies, called on the media to have the courage to report the truth about Trump's tyranny and vowed to hold those in Trump's regime accountable for crimes that may take place on Illinois soil if this invasion takes place. Pritzker began his speech with this truth: "This is not about fighting crime. This is about Donald Trump searching for any justification to deploy the military in a blue city, in a blue state, to try and intimidate his political rivals." Pritzker then called out Trump's end game as he also slammed Stephen Miller, saying: "This is about the president of the United States and his complicit lackey, Stephen Miller, searching for ways to lay the groundwork to circumvent our democracy, militarize our cities and end elections." "End elections." That is Trump's goal—which is not a surprise given Trump attempted a coup after losing the 2020 election and incited the Jan. 6 terrorist attack. And this is the same Trump who on Monday in the Oval Office stated, "A lot of people are saying 'maybe we'd like a dictator." The two-term governor also addressed Trump's lies about crime in Chicago. Pritzker explained, "Crime is dropping in Chicago," noting, "Murders are down 32% compared to last year and nearly cut in half since 2021. Shootings are down 37% since last year, and 57% from four years ago. Robberies are down 34% year over year." Pritzker then really punched Trump in the face with the lines: "Eight of the top 10 states with the highest homicide rates are led by Republicans. None of those states is Illinois." He continued, "Memphis, Tennessee; Hattiesburg, Mississippi have higher crime rates than Chicago, and yet Donald Trump is sending troops here and not there? Ask yourself why." We, of course, know the answer. This has nothing to do with Trump fighting crime, it has to do with controlling Democrats. The Governor then did something you don't typically hear from a Democratic official—he demanded the press accurately cover his story. Pritzker stated, "To the members of the press who are assembled here today, and listening across the country, I am asking for your courage to tell it like it is." He continued with these biting lines, "This is not a time to pretend here that there are two sides to this story. This is not a time to fall back into the reflexive crouch that I so often see, where the authoritarian creep by this administration is ignored in favor of some horse race piece on who will be helped politically by the president's actions." Instead, Pritzker provided the press with the frame that should be used: "Donald Trump wants to use the military to occupy a U.S. city, punish his dissidence, and score political points. If this were happening in any other country, we would have no trouble calling it what it is: a dangerous power grab." Will the corporate media do that? Stop laughing. The corporate media is part of Trump's messaging apparatus as they ignore the threats he poses to our Republic, Trump's role in the Epstein child sex ring, his rank corruption and more. Pritzker then looked into the camera and delivered this biting message to Trump: "Mr. President, do not come to Chicago. You are neither wanted here nor needed here." Pritzker continued on by gloriously taking a shot at Trump's obvious cognitive decline that corporate media has chosen to ignore, stating, "Your remarks about this effort over the last several weeks have betrayed a continuing slip in your mental faculties and are not fit for the auspicious office that you occupy." In the face…in the face!! As to Trump's planned invasion of Chicago, Pritzker did not hold back in telling Trump: "The State of Illinois is ready to stand against this military deployment with every peaceful tool we have." But Pritzker then added something often missing from Democratic messaging. He made it clear he will criminally charge anyone involved in Trump's illegal scheme, declaring, "To the Trump administration officials who are complicit in this scheme…to any federal official who would come to Chicago and try to incite my people into violence as a pretext for something darker and more dangerous: we are watching and we are taking names." Pritzker continued: "You can delay justice for a time, but history shows you cannot prevent it from finding you eventually. If you hurt my people, nothing will stop me, not time or political circumstance, from making sure that you face justice under our constitutional rule of law." (See clip below) That is more important than some might get. Up until now, Trump's minions believe they have nothing to lose by following his orders. But Trump can only pardon for federal crimes—not those that violate the state laws of Illinois. And now all involved are on notice that Pritzker will be coming to prosecute Trump officials, federal agents and any others who violate Illinois state law as part of Trump's illegal scheme. Pritzker wrapped up his speech by invoking Rev. Martin Luther King—but not in the way we typically hear. The Governor began his closing with the line, "As Dr. King once said, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." He then added a powerful new twist, "History tells us we often have to apply force needed to make sure that the arc gets where it needs to go," adding, "This is one of those times." |
