Today is a different day. I have not lived my 83 years to find myself in an autocratic fascist situation. How we got here will be the subject matter for much discussion. It is as Joe Scarborough said this morning...." a rout that was over before it began". It is fair to say that the American experiment of Democracy took a gut punch last night. We are thinking about our son, his wife, and grandson and what the future holds for them. I can only say that we have failed to pass on the pure basic principles of Civics 101. There seems to be a failure by some to know the difference between Democracy and Autocracy. Give me the strength to resist.
Dear reader, I have plenty to say about last night's dumpster fire but today I want to take a break from jokes. Many of you are in pain and I don't want to make light of that. You shouldn't misinterpret my pause, however, as acquiescence or resignation. We all deserve a moment to curl up in the fetal position. But when that moment is over, I want to do what I can to make life better for my children and grandchildren (not to mention people I don't happen to be related to). I hope you'll feel that way, too. Remaining silent and surrendering to despair is exactly what fascists want us to do. So let's not. Thanks, as always, for supporting my work. You're why I do what I do—and why I'll continue doing it. Stay tuned. All my love, Andy Democracy Dies When Cowardly Billionaires Own Newspapers. Subscribe to The Borowitz Report. |
