HCR's commentary on the recent behavior exhibited is like a review of a horror movie. Horror movies are usually fictional tales of deranged events. Today's depiction is for real. It appears that Trump is in a death-spiral of pitiful evil. If he wins, he will unleash horror. If he loses, he will claim he was cheated again, and stir up another 6 January S**T storm, but the Justice Department and all of its powers will be ready this time for any uprising. He will be going to prison, and he will be in and out of court rooms for the rest of his life. His so-called towering empire will end, and he will forever be known as a LOSER. With what he is up against, he is unable to understand reality, and he's going for broke in the only way he knows how; pitiful vengeance. The debate on 10 September may prove to be his Waterloo, only in this battle, his enemy is only himself. It will be up to Kamala Harris to expose him for the inept con artist that he is.
In a change of pace, with a new contributor, the subject of Ukraine and Zelensky may be more in focus after the messiness of election and transfer of power (from Biden to Harris) is over. The grind of a war-torn country is exhausting, and a Harris-Walz victory will further isolate and weaken Putin. How should Ukraine proceed?
Garrison Keillor. Many of you have responded to his inclusion in these mailings. I thought it would be best if I subscribed to his substack material. Which means that I will be able to receive all of his works. Budget-wise, I will need to eliminate a current subscription to my current menu, but it won't be anything that will affect these mailings. You will also learn from this as to why many authors and opinion writers are joining substack to publish; the changing world of journalism.

| Thanks for subscribing to The Back Room where I'll be going about my business until the Boss decides I'm done. I'm excited about this — I'd assumed I'd fade away at around 70 but the past nine years have been pretty rich, a couple new novels, a memoir, a Lake Wobegon screenplay, and in The Back Room, readers will be sent works in progress, read anything when the ink is still wet, and be able to comment, correct, chastise, or sheer. Each Sunday, you will receive the audio of a monologue from the early 80's. These are not available online so we wanted to share how the monologue segment evolved. We will also dig deep in the archives and find video, old, published work, unpublished drafts, audio from some Prairie Home Production programs. Yet this fall we are looking at doing a video conversation with friends that will be available exclusively through a link in The Back Room. We are working out the glitches but stay tuned to this exclusive treat. Why did I move to Substack? Because the world as I knew it back in my youthful ambition is fading fast. Publishers are conglomerating, newspapers and magazines are going off in their own directions, and millennial editors are looking for millennial writers and I say Bravo to that, but I'm writing more than ever and intend to keep going, and my ambition now has nothing to do with Best Sellers or Prestigious Prizes and everything to do with connecting with readers. My wife loves e-books and if I want to rekindle her interest in what I have to say, I have to go online. So that's what I'll do. Simple as that. GK |
