The ugly dream beat keeps on pounding. There are crescendos of dystopian doom, interrupted by periodic highs of sunshine. We should recognize that there are many issues that are converging right before our eyes and ears. Should we survive this era of convergence, we need to recognize that the claw back to what we regard as happier and more normalcy is going to be the thrust of any agenda. Take the matter of policing - does a 911 call require all responders to arrive with a gun pointed at anyone. We need to define the term "policing", why it is needed, and what are the appropriate responses to each type of alleged antisocial behavior. Take the matter of preparation for any health or pandemic - what is the role of government, and the CDC, the FDA?. Should there be a separation between public policy and science, or can the two co-exist, and how to bring it about. Take the matter of Voters' and Civil Rights - is there enough reason to return and "fix" them. The environment - this can cannot be kicked down the road any longer, so what are doing about it? Foreign relations and our deteriorating stature as the beacon to the world - how and do we want to repair this? Healthcare- is it the role of the federal government to ensure that all should receive a basic system that covers basic needs, or is it not, and if not, what? I think you get my drift. All of these above noted issues, and much more are on the line this next general election. It's really easy to get sucked into the vortex of polls, Q-Anon, political arguments, etc, but to survive all that, we need to focus on who we are...some call it the "Soul of America", and and work through the democratic process to get to what is most important.
