Something to Know - 16 November

1.  As you may know, the Voter's Rights Act, which was initiated back in the LBJ days, is being brought up by Shelby County, Alabama as irrelevant and no longer applicable.   Total B.S..   It probably is less difficult for people of color to register that it was then, but as was demonstrated by a few feckless Republican state legislatures, registering, and voting is not a guaranteed franchise for many.  Until the playing field is completely leveled for all, it is important that we continue to strive to make it that way:1

2.  Adjustment to the new reality is really difficult.   Here is one who recognizes the issue and actually takes great pains to explain the meaning and the method of adjusting:

3.  The Sputtering Old guys in The Senate - McCain is one, and then we have Mitch McConnell.    Romney left in a huff, and dropped one big turd on the GOP guys who kind of want to start picking up the pieces.  McConnell is going to have to figure out for himself what direction he's going to try.  In any event, it is possible that the guy who looks like a scared turtle, peeking out of his shell, is going to end up left out in the cold:

"The very purpose of existence is to reconcile the glowing opinion we have of ourselves with the appalling things that other people think about us."
       -- Quentin Crisp
"The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness."
       -- Joseph Conrad
"Remember that as a teenager you are at the last stage of your life when you will be happy to hear that the phone is for you."
       -- Fran Lebowitz
"Misogynist: A man who hates women as much as women hate one another."
       -- H. L. Mencken
